The newly minted Overrated vs Underrated system for determining the winners of Rugby games came up trumps in its first outing last week, successfully predicting the Tahs to get up over the Force. But now it gets tricky, and the rating may have a surprise in store for the Waratahs this week for their clash with the Rebels.

Unfortunately the Australian Rugby motor vehicle was out of tune, spluttering and shuddering, belching clouds of smoke and screeching its wheels followed by that unmistakeable crunching noise that happens when reality collides with a brick wall. Welcome to Australian Rugby. At worst a car crash waiting to happen, at best a Kia pretending to be a V8 supercar.

The Tom Carter Scale of Averageness has had only mixed results so far, failing to predict the Waratahs' losses to the Force and the Reds, though at least getting the thrashing of the Rebels correct. Clearly the system needs some tweaking. So given that Tom Carter is, at least until very recently, very underrated as a player and a bloke, while other supposed party boys and pretty boys are clearly overrated, The Rolling Maul has developed the Overrated - Underrated system for determining match winners.

The only thing worse than the Reds winning the Super Rugby title last year was the smugness of their supporters. With their descent into their historical status quo over the last three weeks, those supporters have gone strangely quiet.
